While Marvel is currently busy with numerous exciting projects, a recent hint suggests the potential development of a series focusing on one of their most beloved heroes. Scarlett Johansson’s potential involvement in a “top secret” series adds intrigue to this speculation.

Scarlett Johansson, renowned for her role as Black Widow in the Marvel Universe, has been a key figure in numerous Marvel projects. Her portrayal of Natasha Romanoff came to an end in Avengers: Endgame when she heroically sacrificed herself to save the universe. Since then, speculation has swirled about Johansson’s potential involvement in a major new project, though nothing has been officially confirmed. A recent clue has surfaced, hinting at her forthcoming involvement in a massive project.

According to Nexus Point News, Johansson is currently involved in a “top secret” Marvel project, with speculation suggesting it could potentially evolve into a Disney Plus TV series. The specifics of this project remain undisclosed. This intriguing revelation stems from a post on Courtney Baker’s LinkedIn page. Barker, a creative executive at Marvel Studios, shared:

The actress’s name has now been removed, replaced with “Serve as an executive on the upcoming TV project Untitled Series for Disney+”. This cryptic announcement hints at the project’s significance. Barker’s involvement adds weight to the speculation, given her previous work on projects like Guardians of the Galaxy: Holiday Special for Disney+, as well as Guardians of the Galaxy: Vol 3 and numerous other Marvel productions. However, it is important to note that Barker was previously employed by Marvel. Around seven months ago, she mentioned on her page that she was laid off because her next project was in development and “couldn’t proceed further” due to the writers’ strike. Her LinkedIn page does not provide any additional details about her current role or how she may be involved with Marvel and Disney at present.

Currently, no further details are available. However, speculation suggests that this project could potentially be a standalone Black Widow series. Such a venture has long been hinted at, offering the opportunity to delve deeper into her backstory.

The “Secret” Project Is Happening, But Not Right Now

Confirmations regarding an untitled top-secret project involving Scarlett Johansson have been issued by both Marvel Studios’ head, Kevin Feige, and Johansson herself. Feige confirmed the project’s existence during an interview with Entertainment Tonight at The Marvels premiere in November 2023. Additionally, Johansson addressed the secretive project in an interview with ComicBook in June 2023, stating:

Despite ongoing secrecy surrounding the project, details beyond its mere existence have been closely guarded. As Scarlett Johansson’s time as Black Widow came to a close, Marvel has sought ways to weave her character’s story into other projects. However, whether Johansson will reprise her role as Black Widow remains uncertain. Online discussions suggest possibilities ranging from a series centered around Yelena Belova to the potential revival and adaptation of the previously canceled Nomad project. With Marvel currently juggling numerous projects in development, there is still much information yet to be unveiled, and it may be some time before this particular series sees the light of day.
