U.S. Gymnast Jordan Chiles Faces the Potential Loss of Her Olympic Medal Amid Unexpected Controversy That Could Shake the Sports World
On Aug. 5, all women’s gymnastics competitions were finished at the 2024 Paris Olympic Games. America walked away with several medal winners, including Jordan Chiles, who won bronze in the floor exercise.
Almost a week later, Chiles could be forced to return her medal after the final scoring dropped her to 13.66, placing her behind Romanians Ana Maria Barbosu and Sabrina Maneca-Voinea.
This happened because Chiles was improperly granted an appeal to increase her score. The appeal was submitted too late and should have never been counted.
The Romanian Gymnastics Federation then appealed to the Court of Arbitration for Sport to resolve the issue and ensure the medal made its way to Romania.
When news broke, the USA Gymnastics and the U.S. Olympic & Paralympic Committee created a statement.

“We are devastated by the Court of Arbitration for Sport ruling regarding women’s floor exercise,” said a portion of the statement. “The inquiry into the Difficulty Value of Jordan Chiles’ floor exercise routine was filed in good faith and, we believed, in accordance with FIG rules to ensure accurate scoring.”
As of now, it is not clear what will happen with Chiles and her medal, but a resolution could certainly come very soon.
Jordan Chiles Reveals Plans For 2028 Summer Olympics
After competing in the 2020 and 2024 Olympic Games, Chiles might have just let everyone know about her plans for 2028.
“It’s not a no, but it’s not a yes,” Chiles said in an interview with Access Hollywood. “I think, right now, I’m just soaking every moment that I can right now. With the medals that I’ve gotten, I’m just still in awe. Again, I have no words.”
Even if her recently won bronze medal is taken away, 2028 is a great opportunity to add to her already impressive gold and silver medal collection.
