In an interview with Harper’s Bazaar, the singer explained why she decided to make a country album.

“One of my inspirations comes from the overlooked history of black cowboys in America. Many of them were originally called cowboys, who experienced great discrimination and were often forced to work with the worst, most temperamental horses. They were robbed of their talent and formed the soul of the Circuit. Over time, these black rodeos have produced incredible performers and helped us reclaim our place in Western history and culture. We are inspired by the culture and style of riding in Houston,” the singer said.
