EDITORIAL STANDARDS

Editorial Standards

How we write career news and guides.

NewsJob24 publishes career news and guides for people who work in journalism and media. These standards describe how we work. They apply to everything on the Career Wire and to the explanatory text across the site.

Independence

Guides are written by our desk and are not paid placements. No employer, funder, school or vendor can pay for a mention, a ranking or a favourable description. If we ever accept sponsorship for a section, it will be labelled clearly and kept separate from editorial copy.

Sourcing and accuracy

We prefer primary and first-hand sources and we describe when we are making a general point rather than reporting a specific event. We do not publish invented statistics. Where a guide uses an example with numbers, the example is labelled as illustrative or hypothetical. Quotes, when used, are described by role only and are clearly generic in this launch edition.

Labelling sample content

Job listings, newsroom profiles, salary bands and grants in this edition are illustrative samples. They carry visible labels. We do not use real company names, real people, real brands or real funders in them, and we will not present sample content as a real opportunity.

No professional advice

Our guides explain concepts and suggest questions to ask. They are not legal, tax, medical or personal-finance advice. On topics such as contracts, rights and pay, we encourage readers to speak to a qualified adviser, a union or a professional association.

Corrections

If we make a mistake, we correct it. Write to the corrections address listed on the Contact page with the page, the passage and the reason you think it is wrong. We will review it, fix confirmed errors and add a note to the page that says what changed and when. We do not quietly rewrite material in a way that hides a mistake.

Fairness and respect

  • We describe jobs and candidates without stereotypes.
  • We avoid requirements that exclude people without a good reason.
  • We use inclusive language and support accessible formats.
  • We treat readers' time and attention with respect.

Privacy

We do not run accounts, and the site stores your saved items and preferences in your own browser. See the Privacy Policy for details.

Changes to these standards

We may update these standards as the service grows. When we do, the date at the bottom of the page changes, and significant changes will be summarised here.
