This page explains, in plain terms, what you can and cannot do on NewsJob24 right now, and how the service is intended to work once real listings arrive.
Sample listings
Every job on the site is a sample written for the launch edition. Each one carries a visible Sample label and an illustrative salary range. The employers are fictional, so there is no one to apply to. You can browse, filter, read the full descriptions and save roles you like to see how the experience will feel.
Browsing and filtering
The Find Jobs page lets you search by keyword and narrow results by beat, working mode and contract type. Filters work inside your browser, with no account needed. The Beats and Newsrooms pages organise the same samples from different angles.
Saving jobs and guides
The bookmark button stores a job or a guide in your browser's local storage. The Saved page reads that list back. Nothing is sent to a server. If you clear your browser data or switch devices, your saved items will not follow you, and that is by design for this edition.
Applications
There is no application system yet. When real listings open, each listing will explain exactly how to apply, and we intend to keep that route simple: usually an email address or the employer's own page, rather than a long form on our site.
How employer checks are planned
When posting opens, we plan to ask each employer for a named contact, an honest pay range, the working mode and evidence that a real publication or production business stands behind the role. We also plan to remove listings that are filled, frozen or abandoned. This is a description of intent, not of something already running, because there are no real employers on the site today.
- No ghost listings: a role must be a genuine vacancy.
- No fees charged to candidates for applying.
- Pay information in every listing, shown as a range.
- A visible route to correct or report a listing.
Alerts and the daily digest
Job alerts and a daily digest are planned. At the moment, if you enter an email on the alert forms, it is stored in your browser only and is not sent anywhere. The Wire Alerts page explains this in more detail.
Salary and grant pages
The Media Salary Index and Journalism Grants pages teach you how to read pay ranges and funding listings. Figures there are illustrative and are not survey results or real funder programmes.
