The footer of NewsJob24 links to a page called Press Accreditation. This page explains what press credentials are in general and what NewsJob24 does and does not do about them.
What press credentials are
A press credential is a document, badge or registration that shows a person is working as a journalist for a recognised outlet or as a freelancer on assignment. They are issued by different bodies: event organisers, public authorities, professional associations or employers themselves. Each has its own rules, and one credential does not automatically work everywhere.
What NewsJob24 does not do
- We do not issue press credentials, cards or accreditation of any kind.
- We do not currently verify anyone's press status.
- We do not claim to represent any official press body.
- We do not guarantee access to events, venues or officials.
How credentials may feature in future listings
When real employer listings open, we may ask employers to show evidence that a genuine publication or production business stands behind a role. That might include a link to published work or a named editor. This is a plan rather than a description of a live service, and it is about checking employers, not about accrediting individual journalists.
Presenting your own credentials
If you apply for roles that require access to restricted events or documents, you can help hiring editors by including:
- The name of the body that issued your credential, and its validity period.
- A short note on assignments you covered with it.
- A statement of any limits, such as events or regions it covers.
- A way for the hiring editor to confirm it with the issuer.
Freelancers
Freelancers often receive credentials through a commissioning editor. If you do not have one yet, ask the editor for a letter of assignment, which many event organisers accept as a first step. Keep copies of correspondence and be ready to explain your role.
Safety and ethics
Credentials do not remove risk. Follow the safety advice of your employer or a professional safety organisation, and respect the rules of the places you report from. Never misrepresent your status to gain access.
