Employer Guidelines

What newsrooms will be asked to provide when listings open.

Employer posting on NewsJob24 is not open yet. This page describes what newsrooms and studios will be asked to provide when it opens, so that you can prepare and so that candidates know what to expect.

What every listing should include

  • A clear job title that describes the work, not a vague label.
  • A pay range that is honest and covers the realistic offer for the role.
  • The working mode: remote, hybrid or on-site, with the location or time zones involved.
  • The type of contract: full-time, part-time, contract or fellowship.
  • A named contact or a clear application route.
  • A plain statement of what the role involves and what is required.

What we will not allow

  • Ghost listings for roles that do not exist or are already filled.
  • Fees or payments requested from candidates.
  • Requirements that exclude people without a legitimate reason.
  • Misleading claims about the employer, pay or working conditions.
  • Collecting candidates' data for purposes unrelated to hiring.

Showing that the role is real

We intend to ask employers for evidence that a genuine publication or production business stands behind the role: for example, a link to published work or a named editor who can confirm the vacancy. We will explain exactly what is needed once the process is built. For now, no checks run because there are no real employers on the site.

Keeping listings current

Roles that are filled or frozen should be marked as such promptly. We plan to remind employers to update their listings and to remove those that remain unconfirmed after a set period.

Freelance and contract work

Listings for freelancers and contractors should explain the rate or day rate, how invoices are paid, who owns the rights in the work, and what happens if an assignment is cancelled. Clarity here is part of being a fair employer.

Accessibility and fairness

We encourage employers to state that adjustments are welcome and to describe how candidates can ask for them. Job descriptions should use inclusive language and focus on skills and outcomes.
